WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. — The Waukesha County community is mourning the passing of County Executive Paul Farrow, who died at the age of 61 after a battle with cancer. His death was confirmed by a spokesperson on July 8, 2026, prompting an outpouring of tributes from public officials, colleagues, and residents who remembered him as a dedicated leader and longtime public servant.
Farrow had publicly shared in September 2024 that he had been diagnosed with mucinous adenocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer. Despite his health challenges, he continued serving in his role as county executive and remained committed to the community he represented.
A longtime figure in Wisconsin politics, Farrow built a career centered on public service. Before becoming Waukesha County Executive in 2015, he served in the Wisconsin State Assembly, the Wisconsin State Senate, and held the position of Senate Assistant Majority Leader. He was reelected as county executive in 2019 and 2023, continuing his leadership role through multiple terms.
Farrow also served as Chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin from 2021 to 2022, where he was recognized for his involvement in statewide political leadership.
Following news of his passing, officials shared heartfelt condolences and praised Farrow’s commitment to Waukesha County.
“I am heartbroken by the passing of County Executive Farrow. Paul was a devoted public servant, a steady leader, and a proud champion for Waukesha County. He led with conviction and cared deeply about this community,” Waukesha County Board Chairman Jim Heinrich said. He extended condolences to Farrow’s wife, Amy, his family, friends, colleagues, and everyone who knew him.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers also remembered Farrow as a respected public servant and community leader.
“Paul was a good, kind, and principled person who cared deeply about his community and our state,” Evers said, adding that Farrow’s contributions would be greatly missed.
Waukesha Mayor Alicia Halvensleben expressed sympathy on behalf of the city, recognizing Farrow’s years of dedication and service.
“County Executive Farrow devoted much of his life to serving our community with dedication and care. He was a respected leader whose contributions to Waukesha County will not be forgotten,” she said.
Beyond his political career, Farrow was remembered by many as someone who valued community connection, leadership, and service. Supporters and colleagues highlighted his steady approach, commitment to residents, and willingness to work toward improving the county he represented.
Following Farrow’s death, Jim Heinrich will serve as Acting County Executive and assume the responsibilities of the office. The County Board is expected to confirm an Interim Executive within 30 days, while a countywide special election will later determine who will complete the remainder of Farrow’s term.
